I want to approach this in a different way than I see other people do.
There is no shortage of websites explaining how the whole Google adsense program works and I want to be a little different.
My goal is to explain to you (the reader) this entire affiliate program from the viewpoint of the advertiser.
No, I am not talking about the “big G.” I am talking about the people who actually pay for these “clicks.”
I firmly believe that the reason why most people never make substantial Google adsense revenue is because they do not see, or think about, the actual person who is paying for all these clicks. They do not see what these clicks are supposed to do and ultimately generate. And this is why they fail.
We tend to think that these clicks are going to come from “thin air” and have not the slightest clue what is optimally supposed to come before and after that.
Let’s begin.
The Advertiser ( Person Paying for The Clicks)
Most of these people are small business owners. You have a couple large corporations who do a little to a lot of pay-per-click advertising with the Google adsense program but the majority of the people who use this particular advertising medium are small businesses.
These people are looking for more customers. Many of them are struggling to stay afloat. You have a few of these companies that are plush with cash but many of them barely make it. And they are hoping that this program can supply them with a steady stream of traffic.
Either they have been sold on the idea by a pay per click middleman (and there are lots of them out there) or they have come to conclusion themselves that advertising is going towards the internet.
The phone book used to work great and were the best way to generate new, targeted customers.
Radio, television, and newspaper advertising are actually very cost effective when averaged out over the long run but are out of the price range for most business owners because of the LARGE initial capital outlay you have to put up.
People are not going to internet to look for whatever they need. And Google is the traffic highway that is leading them there.
Whether people see the adsense in the actual search results, on a website, blog, or article the customers who come there have that subject on their mind. If a person is on an automotive forum he is thinking about fixing, buying, or maintaining a vehicle.
So all these small businesses are looking to pay a certain amount per click expecting that the person clicking on the ad is interested in what he or she has to sell and eventually going to end up buying their product or service.
That is what the Google adsense program is all about. It is supposed to be feeding companies, mostly small ones, new paying customers.
What do you think is going to happen if a person is paying for his traffic and not getting any rate of return on their investment?
What if a small business owner is paying $1000 a month with Google and not generating at least $1000 in sales?
Do you think he will continue with this form of advertising?
No! And he will tell all of his friends not to do it as well.
So the “big G” protects these people or organizations to the best of their ability. They want all their advertisers to make money so they can continue making money. This company makes billions every quarter from its adsense affiliate program and would like to keep it that way.
So they discount the click if it is not as targeted as it should be or does not produce some type of positive response from the visitor. When they are led to the advertiser’s website the person who clicked should either a) browse around for a while b) buy something or c) make a phone call to the company.
Anything less is a wasted click and Google will discount the ad. If your website generates too much bad traffic your whole account will be “smart priced” and you will make a fraction of what you should off any click.
This is Why You Need Targeted Organic Traffic
Now you know why any traffic other than pure, clean organic search engine traffic is bad. To make adsense revenue you need traffic that is “looking to buy something.”
You do not want people just browsing around your site in awe by how attractive it is and how informative your content is. Repeat visitors do you no good. I am sure they make you feel good inside that people like what you write but to make a go of the adsense program you need 100s of new people every single day.
