Unofficial Google Site About Making Adsense Revenue

Diversifying My Adsense Income

Lately I have been trying to diversify my adsense revenue.  The reason why is simple: out of the 25 websites I currently own only three of them make me money on a consistent basis.

Of those three I generate 70% of my money from one of them and it is very season specific.  What am I talking about?  It is in a niche that is specific to heating and my earnings go sharply down in the spring and summer time.  They have been down for the past two months.  My Google Analytics reports is also telling me that the bulk of that traffic is coming from the northeast side of the country which is also a problem.

Its funny because my website that provides the most Google adsense revenue is one I started on a whim just for fun.  I am dead serious.  I did little keyword research, little “buying word” analysis, and at first did even optimize this website correctly.  I threw something on the wall that I was interested in and it stuck.

This post is not able this subject but I will divulge a little into SEO because this brings up an interesting point.  As I have stated before I do not want to turn this blog into an “SEO blog” but I feel I must go into it at times because you really cannot make much adsense revenue unless you understand search engine optimization.  That’s just the way it is.

So here is some advice: a) start websites on subjects you know a lot about b) start websites on subjects you are somewhat passionate about and finally c) do not overly optimize your website d) make the website informative but do not make the overall website template too flashy.

What am I getting at? Well, remember what I just said.  Of all the blogs and websites I started that one I did not start purely for money is what makes me the most money.  Kind of an anomaly huh?

Google does not like SEO.  Google does not like search engine optimizers.  People who do this tamper with and exploit their computer based algorithm.  While we (people skilled at search engine optimization) do not know everything Google looks at when deciding rankings we do know enough.  I work for an SEO firm and we are 90% successfully at what we do (though most of them are local searches which is 10x easier than national searches).

The “Big G” wants everything to be natural.  They want the best websites at the top and they judge the best by how many relevant inbound links are pointing at it.  Google wants the majority of those links to be natural and I mean links not made, negotiated, or coming from YOU.

Give me a moment……  I am going to tie all of this in if you just keep reading.  You came here to learn about making adsense revenue and I am giving you one of the keys.

So Google can tell a site that is perfectly optimized with all the keywords neatly placed in the text, perfect meta tags, perfect meta description, perfect alt tags, perfect everything!

They know the average person creating a genuine site with the user and not the search engine in mind will be this perfect.

So you get dinged for making a site too SEO friendly.

Again, I will repeat.  Too much SEO = lower rankings for keyword(s) = less traffic = less Google adsense revenue.

Think like a user and think like a person who had little to know knowledge of SEO when starting a website that you plan to make money from.  I know it sounds funny but it worked.

So back to diversifying my adsense income.  I have been starting new blogs on subjects that I like, can write a lot about (like this one), and doing very little SEO on them.

When I get links I think to myself “would a visitor from this website follow a link to my website if he saw it?”  “What anchor text would describe myself the best to the user and not to the Googlebot?”

Consistent year round income is based upon having your valid adsense clicks come from multiple sources.  One of your sites could drop in rankings and if that is your best one then you are up a creek without a paddle.
