Blogging With Google

The relationship between Google and bloggers has always been and will always be strong.  It’s because of Google that bloggers even exist. And, I might add, it is because of bloggers that Google was propelled to level they are in today.

Blogs give “the big G” tons of engaging and thought provoking content each and every single day.

Google rewards those blogs with high search engine rankings and traffic.  Bloggers are then able to convert a percentage of that traffic into income by utilizing some sort of affiliate program (many use adsense but there are countless other ways to monetize a site).

Both rely on each other for what they need. Search engine are like animals that need an endless supply of meat to live.  Their meat, or food you might say, is information.  Its crawlers are always scouring the Internet looking for the newest and latest article or post about anything you can imagine.

There are several search engines out there.  Google only has a monopoly because more people trust it more than the others to supply them with the information they need.

In the late 90s, when the Internet was fairly new, there were a lot more.  Since then the smaller ones have gotten gobbled up by the large ones and many others went out of business.

Now there are just four of them: AskJeeves, Bing, Yahoo and Google.  There are a few others but their market share is so small it is not even worth mentioning.

How did Google become #1 out of all those other search engines?  Their system was the fastest at crawling and sorting out data.

As long as your blog is a couple months old any post you write will probably be crawled within minutes.  Sometimes all it takes it seconds!

It could take the other search engines days, weeks, maybe even months to crawl that same post.

So the most popular search engine in the world loves blogs.  They cannot get enough of them.  Not only are the people who write them extremely opinionated (which builds buzz) but their content is always being updated.  No matter what a person is looking for on the Internet there is most likely a blogger that has written about that very topic that very day.

This means that there is a tremendous amount of income earning potential for the average person who wants to put in just several hours per week writing.

“What should I blog about,” is a common question I get asked all the time?

That question is simple to answer.  ANYTHING.

Google needs information about every topic you can think of.  Millions of people are searching for things every second.  All you have to do is write about it and “the big G” will do the rest.

There have been people who make tens of thousands every year writing about decorating their home, celebrity news, gardening and random tirades (literally blogs about random stuff but written in a way people cannot get enough of).  I know of one kid who has a blog about cell phones and he makes $5,000 a month by placing one small block of adsense ads on the bottom of every post he makes.

When it comes to making money online I am really passionate about this subject because I think anyone can do it.  The unemployment rate is 9.1% right now.  That may not seem like much but when you have a population of approximately 311,000,000 people that translates into almost 30 million people in this country who have no job.

Here is a job for you: become a blogger.  There are many people out there making a lot of money doing this and you could be included in that number.

What do you need to do in order to get started?  It is very simple.

First, you need to identify what you are good at.  Write down what you know a lot about.  Everyone is an expert on something.

Make a list of at least ten things you would be able to spend five hours a week writing about.

Second, start a blog about that subject.  It can be broad or specific.  I prefer making a bunch of specific niche blogs but they have their limitations. They have a ceiling, you might say.  Broader topics are harder to get going, have more competition but will make more money for you in the long term.  If you are a person who does not like to diversify and likes to focus on one thing then I would go with a broad-based-topic blog you really are comfortable writing about.

I like using the WordPress CSM (content management system).  It is easy to use and perfectly set up for ranking in Google.  Why anyone would use anything else is a complete mystery to me.

Third, start making posts, or articles, on your blog as soon as you can.  Post as often as you can.  The more articles you make the more often Google will start crawling your site.  Its bots like to visit sites they know update often.

Do this for several months.  Install a stat tracking device so you can monitor your daily and monthly traffic.  You should notice a monthly increase of daily visitors if you stay diligent.

If your content is good then it will attract links.  You will not have to do any optimization yourself if you have informative or engaging content.  People cannot help but link to things they think are valuable.

Fourth, you need to decide how you want to monetize the traffic you are getting.  Do not worry about this until you are getting at least 100 visitors per day.  I can assure you that it will not be worth it until you get to that milestone.  You might get a click every once and a while if it is under that but it will not be enough to make it worth it.  People are also less willing to link to blogs with a bunch of ads of them so I would wait.

I make money online by using Google adsense.  It is the easiest affiliate program to implement, make changes to, tweak and get paid from.  There are many other affiliate programs out there and I have personally many of them.  I found them annoying, confusing and their payout structure very strange.

With Google, I get my adsense earnings deposited directly into my Wells Fargo bank account every single month around the 25th.  It is consistent, reliable and I have not had any problems with it since I started.

Why make things hard when they do not have to be?  I have had many discussions with other Internet marketers who say they make no money with adsense.  They say that there is no money to be made by using this particular program.  Hum?  Google makes over two billion dollars a year and most of it is with this program.  If they are bringing in that much money think about what they are paying out.  They give their publishers 65% of the revenue generated for every click.

So that is the formula for making money blogging.  Anyone can do it and there is not anyone who does not have the tools and expertise to do it. Quit making excuses and plunge in.  The opportunities are endless.
